FTC, States Sue World Professional Association for Transgender Health Over Deceptive Claims Regarding the Treatment of Children

Agency and state partners argue WPATH’s illegal claims profited its members. The Federal Trade Commission, along with Alaska, Iowa, Nebraska and Texas, today filed a lawsuit against the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH), alleging the organization has provided the means for medical providers to make false and unsubstantiated claims to parents in order to sell pediatric medical transition services.

New Trump Administration Proposals Would Further Limit Gender Affirming Care for Young People by Restricting Providers and Reducing Coverage

On December 18, 2025, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) issued two proposed rules that would further limit youth access to gender affirming care. One rule would change the hospital Conditions of Participation (CoPs) which would prohibit most Medicare and Medicaid enrolled hospitals from providing specified gender affirming medical care for youth (the proposed CoPs rule). The second proposed rule would prohibit federal Medicaid or CHIP funds from covering this care for youth (the proposed Medicaid rule).

Jury Awards $2 Million to Woman Who Sued Over ‘Gender-Affirming’ Surgery She Had as Teen

Fox Varian, now 22, underwent a double mastectomy in 2019, when she was 16. Afterward, she felt that her gender transition had harmed her, so she detransitioned. In 2023, she sued her psychologist, Dr. Kenneth Einhorn, and her plastic surgeon, Dr. Simon Chin.

New Trump Administration proposals would further limit gender affirming care for Camille Kiefel, 36, filed a malpractice lawsuit against two Oregon therapists whom she alleges inappropriately approved her for the surgery after brief telemedicine sessions, despite her history of mental health diagnoses that included trauma, depression, suicidal ideation and ADHD.
